Headaches

So I don't know about you all, but I hate headaches.  I unfortunately get headaches frequently.  Not just headaches but Migraines.  When I get a really bad headache I can be laid up in bed for the whole day and I rely on my prescription medicine to hopefully get rid of the pain.  The only problem with the prescription medicine is sometimes it can make me feel as bad as my headache.

So I have decided to try and use some "home remedies" to get rid of my headaches.  Today I tried:

1) Ginger:  supposedly ginger is supposed to help with getting rid of headaches and with nausea.  The headache I had today didn't make me nauseous, so I'll have to try this again when it does.  So I just heated some water added the ginger and let it sit for a little while and then drank.  Not too much help with the headache

2) Black Tea and Cloves:  The black tea contains caffeine which is supposed to help and the cloves are supposed to do something else.  Again not too much help

3) 30 minutes of exercise:  I decided to take a nice walk.  The walk was nice and relaxing, but didn't help with the headache.

So at the end of the day it's Headache: 3 Remedies: 0

Any suggestions of Remedies that help your headaches

Friday Fabulous Five

One of my favorite days of the week is Friday!  Not only does it mean not having to work for TWO days, but its also a great time to look back at the week and think of the good (or great) things that have happened to make your week just that much better.

Here are my Fabulous Five for this week:

1) Friday I was lucky to get off work early (which was a surprise!)  The other SLP had been out of work all week and to my surprise she came in for half a day of work.  So instead of having to see both my Patients and hers I was able to just see mine, get out EARLY and start my weekend off on the right foot!

2) This past week my family was in town!  When Chris and I moved down to Stuart we moved a lot closer to my parents who we get to see almost every weekend, but moving also meant I moved further away from my sister Brittany who is living in Orlando for school.  My other sister Beth lives over in Tampa so we're still pretty far apart.  But this week they were both in town and I got to spend time with them!  I wish they lived closer so we could spend more time together, they're not only my sisters they're also some of my best friends.

3) CHRISTMAS!!!  This is my FAVORITE time of the year.  And this year Christmas was wonderful,  even though Chris and I have been married for a year we spent our first christmas last year like we did while we were dating (He would spend christmas eve and christmas morning up in Merritt Island with his family and then would come down to my family in the evening)  This year our Christmas was different.  We spent the weekend before with his family celebrating Christmas: playing games, eating good food, watching some football, and just spending time together.  Then on Christmas Eve Chris and I headed to my parents for our traditional Prime Rib and twice baked potato Christmas Eve dinner YUM!  Then we all headed to Christmas Eve service, Chris and I went home to our home for the evening.

Christmas morning we loaded up our car with Christmas presents,  I felt a little like santa :)

We got dressed in our Christmas PJs and headed to my parents for a fun filled Christmas!

Hope everyone had a Wonderful Christmas!!

4) I got a new IPhone 5!! I'm really excited about this since my other phone dropped off the counter about 2 weeks ago and the screen splintered =(  so it has been a little difficult to see what I have been doing on my phone.  Thank goodness I had a screen protector on my phone otherwise the glass would have gone everywhere and I don't think the screen would have continued working.  Now I'm set with my new IPhone and my husband got an IPhone 4 (my mom's old phone, she got my dad's old 4s.  There was a lot of phone swapping in my family this week).  I think I'm just as excited about Chris getting the IPhone 4 because before now Chris did not text... at all!  Now he can text so during the day while we're at work we'll be able to be in touch with each other!  Loving having a phone without cracks on the screen =)

5)  Coffee!  I love my morning coffee.  I'm still not convinced that the caffeine in coffee actually gives me a boost (I could drink a cup and go to bed)  Right now I'm loving Dunkin Donuts  Mocha Mint!

Hope you all had a wonderful week!  Let me know what your week highlights were!

Starting out on my own!

As some may know I'm a speech pathologist.  Most of my therapy life has been spent working with kids (which I LOVE!!).  Since moving I have been working in a skilled nursing facility and working with adults, a total change from my little children and honestly as much as I enjoy working with the adults it just does not compare to working with the little kids.

A big Dream of mine since I started school was to open my own therapy clinic where I could work with children.  Today I took my first step to getting my own business going and I'm so excited! I went and met with a Pediatrician who has a need for speech therapy and is looking for a therapist to offer services in her offer to patients she sees.  I can't wait to get to work and start therapizing those kiddos.

Now I just need to come up with the perfect name for my therapy business so I can get incorporated and get to work!  Any suggestions?!?!

DIY Chalkboard

So I have seen a bunch of pins on pinterest about making a chalkboard yourself and loved the idea.  So I went looking around my house and found an old mirror I wasn't using anymore and decided to make it into something I would use.

Here is the mirror before hand
The mirror really wan't anything special, but I thought it might do the job for what I wanted.

The first thing I did was place the mirror on trash bags to make sure I didn't get paint on anything else.  (in future I would probably use newspaper and not trash bags, but I didn't have newspaper at the time)

I then painted the mirror with rust-oleum chalkboard paint from Home Depot.  I ended up putting 3 layers of paint on the chalkboard.

The last step was to paint the boarder of the mirror since it was also black.  (I guess if your mirror had a different colored boarder you wouldn't necessarily have to paint the edge)  When painting the edge I just used white high gloss paint, I wanted it to be easy to clean that's why I chose the high gloss.

Here is my finished project!  I'm very excited about using my new chalkboard.  It is currently ready for the 2012 Gator Football season!! Go Gators!!

Home Sweet Home

So I am realizing that I am not very good at consistently posting on here, but I'm going to work on that and I feel I have been really busy these last few weeks,  We finally closed on our house and have moved in!!!  I'm so excited I can't believe we finally have our house.

Me with our Keys!

We now have many projects for our house and I will hopefully document the changes we make and all of our projects on here.

Here is our Now I hope to start making some changes soon (at least the color to start. No more yellow kitchen for me!)  We did improve it a bit when we moved in we got new appliances! (since the ones in the house didn't work)

Our Kitchen (a huge disaster), but you can see our new fridge.
I love it, its pretty and has lots of space inside!

Here is our new Stove before the gas company came to install it
And here it is all installed!
I am very excited to cook and bake on my new stove! I have never used a gas stove before, but I think its supposed to be really nice to cook with.

So hopefully soon I will have more posts with changes we have made or are at least are planning to make!

Getting Ready for Fall

I know its not fall yet, but I sure am ready!  I have had enough of this Florida summer heat and am ready for it to cool down just a little (although it won't even cool down a little bit until mid-late October).

I decided to get a jump start on my Fall decoration by making a wreath for my Front Door (or some door in my new home!!)  I'm very excited about my wreath and can't wait until I can start decorating for Fall!

I made this wreath using a green foam wreath form, 6 different colors of tulle, and golden ribbon.  I started with 1 yard of each color of tulle (yellow, gold, cranberry, eggplant, brown, and orange) and a single roll of gold ribbon.  I ended up going back and getting another yard of the cranberry, eggplant and brown and another roll of gold ribbon.  Once on the wreath the gold and yellow almost look the same.  I did end up having tulle left over. When I got the tulle home it was already folded in half.  So I started by rolling up the tulle into a roll, snipping off the end so the edge was even and cutting 1 1/2 inch pieces.  Once all the strips were cut I cut the them in half (where the tulle had been folded in half)  and then I cut the pieces in half again, the final pieces of tulle end up being about 14 1/2 inches long.  (From one 1 1/2 inch strip of tulle I got 4 pieces.)  I then just started tying the strips of tulle to the wreath.  (I originally tried to loop the tulle onto the wreath, the way you would if you were making a tutu, but the tulle wasn't long enough and was too loose.  I was concerned that it would fall off so I decided to just tie the tulle on the wreath which looked just fine.)  Every 1 1/2-2 inches I would tie a piece of gold ribbon which I cut to match the length of the tulle pieces.  Once all the green of the wreath was covered I just finished off the wreath with the orange glitter leaf!

(This is the wreath part of the way through.  You can see the type of wreath I used)

To Make a Tulle Fall Wreath:
1 yard yellow tulle (matte or shiny, I used shiny)
1 yard gold tulle (matte or shiny, I used shiny)
1 yard orange tulle (matte or shiny, I used shiny)
1-2 yards brown tulle (matte or shiny, I used shiny)
1-2 yards cranberry tulle (matte or shiny, I used matte)
1-2 yards eggplant tulle (matte or shiny, I used matte)
1 wreath form
1-2 spools golden ribbon

1) Cut the tulle into 1 1/2 inch strips by rolling up the tulle into roll and snipping off the end to make the edge even.

2) Cut the 1 1/2 inch strips into 4 even pieces (the pieces end up being 14 1/2- 15 inches long)

3) Cut golden ribbon into pieces that match the length of the tulle (14 1/2 inches long)

4) Tie the tulle onto the wreath form

5) Every 1 1/2- 2 inches tie on a piece of golden ribbon

6) When finished tying on all of the tulle and ribbon finish off your wreath with whatever fun Fall decoration you have, I used an orange glitter leaf!

7) Enjoy your wreath!! It's a simple and beautiful Fall decoration to make for your home!

The Move is Over

Well the last week and a half have been very busy!  We have finally moved and are kind of settled into our temporary home.  We spent a lot of time cleaning, organizing and packing.  After sorting through all of our belonging we came up with a decent number of items to donate.  This is only part of our donation pile!

It was definitely bittersweet to say goodbye to the home we had shared for the last 3 years.  But Sunday morning we left our keys behind and drove away.  It was very difficult to say goodbye to my friends.  I have worked as a home health speech therapist for the past 3 years and some of the families I worked with have become very dear and wonderful friends.  I will miss seeing them on a weekly bases and watching the children I worked with grow and develop.

I am looking forward to the future.  We have made out move.  Packed all our belongings into a 26' truck (which I drove!!)  Here was my ride.  All in all I have to say all the stress I felt about drive the truck was for nothing.  It drove really well and even though I had 26' of truck behind me, both the truck and I made it safely to our destination.

Now I am starting my new job.  I had my first day today and what a change it will be.  Working with adults in a nursing home is completely different from my little children.  Hopefully I will check on quickly...

Start of Our New Adventure

I have never written a blog before, but thought it would be fun.  I got married 7 1/2 months ago to my wonderful husband Chris and that started my Life as a Brave!

Since getting married my husband and I have been living in Orlando, he graduated with his Master's in Environmental engineering and I continued working at my current job as a home health speech pathologist.  About 2 months ago we decided I would look for a new job in south florida (since that is where I'm originally from) and our new adventure begins...

I am starting my new job in two weeks at a nursing home in Stuart, FL (this will be a big change for me since I'm used to working with children everyday!) Along with trying to pack up our house, say good-bye to all of our friends, Chris and I are also trying to buy a house down in Stuart.  Which has meant spending many weekends driving back and forth between Orlando and Stuart.  So the last few months have been just a little hectic to say the least.  We have an offer in on a house which we are hoping will be ours!  But we have already had one contract fall through so we are hoping that this home works out!!
